Devchonka
Light green, dark green, tan shirt, tan boots Your blood type, name, religion jingles near your heart -Once covered in dust, heated in a scorching sun- The tags jiggle in cold weather. On the phone with you, I hear your unit friends joking: "I'm going to learn Arabic,“ "Why man?" you ask "I figure that's the likeliest place they're going to send us this time, so I might as well" I ignore it; you ignore it. 2am... Hearing your body turn, lugs exhale …you’re awake too… No sounds, taking my journal you write: "Since I met you, I'm afraid to die." Unlikely I'm sure, technically 50% chance you'll leave, but unlikely; They'll take the fresh ones first. Sleeping without your skin Without your scent Midnight kisses Morning breath Smiles Laughs Breakfasts in bed Arms holding me 2am… You roll over, scoop me into your arms So tight we could melt, Exhale; relieved, asleep.
