New_Horizons
Do you usually give birthday presents to friends, if invited to a party? Is it expected?
Survictor
I would. If I wasn't particularly close, however. I might just buy a bottle of nice wine and a card rather than anything too personal so as not to step over boundaries. xxx
CarnelianButterfly
Depends, most of my friends say come, have fun, no gifts. Some people might expect gifts.
melrich
I only buy friends birthday gifts if it is a milestone birthday and tehy are having a party to celebrate it (21,30,40,50). Otherwise my friends and I do not buy each other gifts.
laboheme
I'm the kind of person who loves giving gifts, so I always bring something...If it's somebody whom I don't know well, or who is the kind of person who feels obliged to return the favor, I'll limit myself to something small -- flowers, chocolate. But that's just me...and none of my friends ever expect gifts. Unless it's a formal birthday party (with birthday invitations, cake and everything, as opposed to a get-together that just happens to coincide with somebody's birthday), I don't think a gift is always necessary.
