acb_22
Has anyone ever been in a relationship, been married to, or dated someone with Adult ADD? If so ... could you describe the relationship?
Momene
I think I have a mild form of it. I get bored easily and have to keep myself and my brain busy or i start worrying!
CarnelianButterfly
My roommate was ADD. He was pretty hyper and would run around doing this and that. He could get distracted fairly easily, so some things would take him longer to get done. I loved him to pieces, he was still a wonderful guy, just a little flighty. Conversations could be rushed, but I knew he really tried to be a good roommate and it wasn't always his fault if something slipped his mind. novaseeker
Yes I have. It manifests in a couple of main ways. One is that the person has a devil of a time concentrating with ANY distractions. Any distraction can get them sidetracked to an extent that they simply forget what they were doing before the distraction, and may only come back to what they were doing hours later. The end result of this is that they will sometimes/often either miss appointments, run late, or not follow through on things they promised to do/get, etc. Another is that many ADD people have a hard time making decisions. It relates, again, to the difficulty many of them have with concentrating, and sometimes trying to get a concentration level sustained long enough to make a decision rationally can be a challenge, and so the decision just doesn't get made. There are many good therapies relating to managing adult ADD. Many of them revolve around the ADD person leading a more consciously scheduled life, breaking down their day into manageable snippets of time in which they can maintain concentration, and then switch to something else, and then back again, so that by the end of the day what they had planned to do is done. ADD people can't "wing it" ... when they "wing it", they have a hard, hard time getting things done.
Momene
That DOES sound like me. Without being big-headed, I am actually quite "brainy" but not a genius. Perhaps without ADD I could have been a genius.
AwdreeHpburn
my husband's been diagnosed with adult ADD. He takes medication so he can work. When he's not medicated, he shakes his legs, or talks a lot...he's normal, he just has a hard time focusing on any particular task for any real length of time. I think I have it a bit too. I think a lot of people do actually...

acb_22
Ta_ree_saw: If you don't mind me asking ... what medication is your husband currently taking? How long did it take before you noticed his symptoms decreasing? I've read about this new medicine, called "Stratta," which I've heard is good because it's a non-stimulant. AwdreeHpburn
acb - ya know, I don't know the name of it exactly but I don't it IS a stimulant and contains caffeine (I think, or something similiar.) It didn't seem to take long at all before it started working for him. I'd say less than 2 weeks.
Polypeptide
I have ADD. My life is miserable. My relationship with bf is miserable. -I don't remember what has been said. I asked my bf about something. He asked me to clarify. I didn't have a clue what we were talking about seconds ago. It's frustrating. -Forgetful. My bf doesn't like people's feet stepping on his pillow. I'll jump right into his bed and step right on it. I didn't do it on purpose. I just didn't realize, too excited and jump right on. -Uncaring...My bf hurt his chest while playing soccer. The next day I failed to ask him how he was doing because I didn't remember. The other day I was being playful and punched his chest...
acb_22
Polypeptide: Are you on any medication for your ADD? If you don't mind me asking ... how old are you? Were you diagnosed as a child? I've been doing a lot of reading ... my ex (of 2 years) recently told me she had Adult ADD ... so I started doing some research, and her symptoms all line up. Thankfully, she's agreed to see a specialist ... who can hopefully help. Her life is a mess right now as well ...

Last year I learned about ADD and the symptons were describing my life. I got diagnosed last year. I'm on medication but it hasn't been helpful. There are different drugs for ADD and everyone reacts to each differently.
