He listened so intently

For 2 hours time it seems

We told of the great sadness

And all of our lost dreams

 

We told of times of dancing

Times of laughter and such fun

We told of Banuculda

Oh how the neighbors would run!

 

We told of things he held so dear

Like Grandma Dolly and Petero

We told of many cups of "C"

And how he got "the GO GO GO"

 

We told of times he was so great

That he must have been heaven sent

And how he would fix all the world's problems

Once he ran for president

 

We told of the drumming hands

And tapping canes upon the floor

We told of trips for tamarindo

Oh how we longed for more

 

We told him of a fishing buddy

With his right hand man he'd go

We told of acts of selfless help

And still he seemed to not know

 

'Cuz on that day all that came out

Was monkey see as monkey do

And I began to wonder

If he even knew you

 

I read a sign at the doctor's once

That said most of my life will not matter

'Cept I made a difference to a child

Oh, what truth could be sadder
