"I Kept The Rose"

An early evening

Spent in the soft cold rain

Smile on my face

But inside just pain

I go inside

Alone in the crowd

Then you came to me

It all turned around

--Chorus--

I'll say I've forgotten you

And I'll move on I suppose

But it hurts just to look at you and

I kept the rose

--End Chorus--

I kept the rose

To remember the night

Everything was so senseless

But that was alright

With a smile on my face

And a dying, forgotten dream

Well everything's not

Just as it may seem

(chorus)

A wilted rose lies in the back of my drawer

I can't throw it away

Though it shouldn't mean a thing anymore

Dried up leaves

And yellowed petals

Like a promise you just couldn't keep

I look at it dying

If I could look inside myself

That's probably what I'd see

(chorus)

You threw me aside

But I can't throw it all away

I know everyone else

Thinks I'm doing okay

I'll say I've forgotten you

And I'll move on I suppose

But it hurts just to look at you and

I can't hold onto you and

I cannot keep you

So…

I kept the rose

It's so very easy

To say that you love me

And it's so charming

So charming, oh

I know you thought you meant it then

But you don't mean it still, no

You didn't keep your promises but…

I kept the rose

Bravo!!! That was incredible! I really like the part, "dried up leaves, and yellowed petals, like a promise you just couldn't keep, I look at it dying,if i could look inside myself, that's probably what I'd see."

You're a talented writer. I look forward to seeing more. I wish I could hear it sung!

Thank you very much for your comment. That stanza is one that I like better out of it myself. It was inspired by a visual that actually inspired the whole song. I actually do still have a rose in my drawer. I kind of forgot about it for a little I suppose...and I don't have the heart to toss it. But I'm still not over him and when I saw it there all dried up, wilted, and brittle...it was like the epitome of my emotions. So that part has a real visual for me. Anyway, thanks again.
