Kristenelaine
Hey All!! I am going to Cancun, Mexico in June and am staying at the Riu Cancun. I wanted an area where it was easy to meet people, go on day tours, and enjoy myself. I am flying solo and just want to know what I can expect. Thanks! Kristenelaine
Cancun is perhaps the best since Las Vegas I havent been to Vegas, but knowing all the great things about it, Cancun must be amazing!

Kristenelaine
I am looking forward to it. I think Vegas is overrated, but would definitely go to see for myself. Hopefully Cancun treats me well. I am flying solo so a little nervous about that.

benjii
Cancun is amazing best place Iv been so far I took my ex fiance there but we stayed in playa del Carmen which is more old style I would say and cancun downtown is more morden. I can highly recommend snorkling in the sea with turtles and the speedboat tour which you get to drive your own speedboat and the zip wires were all very good days out. And for the Chichen Itza temple its a 3 hour drive and to be honest its hot and humid as hell there and problery because didnt intrested me was boring but it might be your thing. Hope you have a good time
Kristenelaine
Thanks for the advice! I will definitely be snorkeling and seeing the ruins. I am going solo (just broke up with ex) so hopefully it is easy to meet people there and just have a relaxed good time
sunshines
Brave woman! I heard that it's best to stay on the resorts and not venture off to see ruins.
benjii
Yes very easy the clubs out there are really good and the locals are very friendly just some advise if you go out clubbing (reccomend daddy os on the beach and really nice) or for a few drinks make sure the taxi is booked from your hotel the ria cancun has a taxi waiting outside most of the time and get the hotel taxi to pick you up as outside cancun is quite bad and you do get the odd weirdo but cancun and the main spots are patrolled highly by the police and milltary. The beaches are out of this world best Iv seen so far and Iv been to most of Caribbean, i was reccomended to taxi paseos but i would reccomend take half us dollars and half paseos. if you want any advise just drop me a message

Kristenelaine
I will take a bit of both with me. But I was told I could use my debit or credit card there. (I am from Canada) and just let my bank know I am travelling and I was told to bring some cash but the rest be on a debit card?
DepthOfField
Are you set on Cancun, or have you thought about other destinations?
Kristenelaine
Set on Cancun. Trip is already booked. I looked at tons of other locations and Cancun was perfect for what I am looking for in a trip
benjii
I'm from the uk and my bank charges are high abroad. But thing like taxis only take cash and little shops outside complex only cash but things like trips you can use your card for with your travel rep
Kristenelaine
Yeah that is basically what I am going to do! Thanks for the help!
and so it goes
Slightly off topic, but heads up on the "roaming" charges on your cell phone!
sunshines
Slightly off topic, but heads up on the "roaming" charges on your cell phone! There's actually an app you can download, that others who you want to contact with can download and then you can call/text each other for free. Kristenelaine
Thanks for the heads up, but I do not plan on being glued to my phone while travelling. I doubt I will use it at all.
