SarCareBear
i can't help it! We could slip back through the sun burnt sidewalk cracks Back to home-is-where-the-heart-is. With only a ceiling of clouds, we lived in summer Where everything we touched turned to gold. The world was colored with crayons and Our days were dreams in ring-spun cotton Tongues always tasting of honeysuckle or Popsicles Red sticky fingers for you, always purple for me. You kneeled in your overalls by the Oak one afternoon Dug a hole with a rusty spade and placed our treasure box in Everything that we had, buried in one polished wood chest Photo, bracelet, four-leaf clover, and a fond memory. Beautiful bouquets you’d pick – only some dandelions As we ambled down the dirt road towards the fields by my house Looked like a pink sky and blue grass come sunset We laughed at the hues inverted, such a silly deception. Quiet; we’d listen to the crickets chirping sweetly from the ground I knew you were thinking then ‘bout how you missed your mom But mostly I just thought about the crickets, and how Their singing sounds of the season played like music to my ears. Scout
I loved it! I used to live on a farm out in the country as a kid, and your poem really resonated with me.
ForAnother
I like it. The end is kinda abrupt. But I really enjoyed putting pictures in my head (I was born in Virginia, so i was a southern boy when i was young) ForAnother
