To have always felt what seemed

One sided love

Leaves the heart

Broken, battered, bruised,

And as caged as a dove.

 

To have always felt the piercing spikes

Of polluting jealousy

Leaves the mind

Callow, credulous, chancy,

And as deficient as truancy.

 

To have always felt the cold sting

Of serrated metal

Leaves the skin

Scarred, spoiled, splintered,

And as wizened as a nettle.

 

To have always felt the impudent arms

Of ceaseless death

Leaves the soul

Hollow, heedless, hacked,

And as endangered as a breath.

 

To have never felt what seemed as

Rounded, restful, resilient,

And as peaceful as a dove.
