Cardiovascular exercise! Doing tons of legs lifts or sit-ups will tone the muscles UNDERNEATH the fat but it won't really burn off that much of it. Doing light muscle training is very important so don't completely ignore it, but if you want to lose fat, you have to burn calories on a treadmill, bicycle, eliptical, etc. Twenty to thirty minutes is ideal but if you can't do that right away, start with 15-minutes and work your way up to it.

Cardio is great, as mentioned. Do it consistently to raise your metabolism. Healthy eating is also important - some suggest eating small meals several times a day. Weight Watchers is also effective as it forces you to track calories.

Spot reduction and using weights/machines to 'target' areas of your body will not help with fat. In fact, toning the underlying muscle may actually make you bigger and heavier in the short term.

Does you gym offer group fitness classes aimed at weight reduction? Peer pressure and having goals with others can be very helpful and motivating. It makes it more fun, too.

Good luck and stick to it!

To lose weight fast, you need to do cardio combined with a sensible healthy diet.

Try eating 6 small healthy non-fattening meals/snacks a day and do lots of cardio up to about 45mins per day.

You can't pick and chose where you will lose weight, your body will lose according to where it feels it can.
