Saw how much my heart could take,

receded a bit for me.

So I could see what I could see.

let me be who I should be,

so tonight I could finally see,

who I am and who I will be.

Let me alone so I could finally smile,

take the pressure off for awhile,

of all the gifts I gave to you,

it's the best you could ever do.

I am interpreting it as (correct me if I am wrong) as someone who was under immense pressure by another person--who finally backed off and gave the person (who was under pressure) room to breath...
