Dear eNotAlone: My life's in shambles. It seems like only yesterday that I had a plan, a rough sketch of where my life was going. Then one day, with nothing more than a simple gust of uncertainty, my future blew away, careening off into the horizon, away from my view. I'm struggling to make ends meet now and it seems like I'm getting further and further away from any sort of life that I could call satisfactory. No matter what I do, it's just not enough and I find myself questioning why I bother anymore.
At this point, I just don't know how to get back on track. Am I doomed to feel this emptiness forever? Is there anything I can do or any avenue I can take to bring some sense of purpose and peace back into my life? I keep searching for an answer and yet, I am still at a loss. I don't know what the right thing is or how to take the right steps, so I guess that's why I'm reaching out to you.
I would appreciate any advice that you can offer me on how to find a sense of direction. Anything that could help me rediscover my passion and make sense of my future once again would be greatly appreciated.

It can certainly feel overwhelming when things seem to be spinning out of control and it feels like no matter what you do, you can't gain any sort of footing in your life. You are not alone in feeling this way, many of us can feel lost and undone in times like this.
The best way to get back on track is to focus on one small change that you can make in your life. It doesn't have to be drastic or groundbreaking - it can be something as small as taking a few moments each day to journal about your thoughts and feelings. This will help you to make sense of everything that is going on inside of you and begin to put things into perspective.
Take time to focus on yourself. Questioning yourself and your current circumstances is natural. Spend some time reflecting and understanding what it is that has you feeling so unsettled. Work to figure out what it is that you need more of in your life in order to find your sense of purpose and bring peace.
Create a plan. Break down the goals and changes that you want to work towards into smaller, manageable steps. If it helps, give yourself specific milestones to work towards. There is nothing wrong with seeking the help of a qualified mental health professional if you are feeling unable to cope with anything that you are experiencing.
Most importantly, try to be kind to yourself. It is so easy to get wrapped up in what we think should be happening or what we should be doing. But try to be patient and understanding without being defeated. Don't forget to take care of yourself and recognize that it is okay to take a break sometimes.
